Back with Fresh Seeds and Compost!

Woop Woop. I haven't been back on this thing in agesss. But now I'm back and I haz new plans!

I've been interested in the composting for quite some time. So, I thought, now is the timeee! Although, I'm actually vermicomposting with redworms to be more exact! It has been about a day or two since I last checked on my makeshift bin, but I don't really expect there to be much activity since it has been cold lately. I've fed mah worms with some yard trimmings, a squishy persimmon, coffee grounds, and topped it off with a nice layer of vegetable scraps a few days later (which I don't think the worms will get much into until the scraps starts to decay and the microbes break it down). Overall, one project down, and another one to goooo.

BY THE WAY, I hope using a styrofoam container wasn't a bad idea, but I shall see eventually if it works out in the end. I cut medium sized square holes in the side of the box and covered the holes with pieces of cut out cloth to prevent most thing from getting in or out. Nice breathing holes... haha

So mah next project. I was debating whether I should grow flowers or herbs. I will eventually get to growing them all at some point, so not to worry. Puahahaha. I ended up getting some packets of herb seeds and ,on a separate purchase, some arugula seeds (because I read they can grow over fall and winter). I also got a seedling dome to start germinating the seeds indoors where it's warmer. I'll gradually introduce the plants outside when they grow to a hardy enough size. I think the smarter way to start off the seeds was to plant them the beginning of spring... but I'm way too excited and eager to start them off early. Maybe I'll learn a useful trick or two on how to keep plants alive through winter... that's if they survive through winter of course... puahaha.

I was thinking of growing some plants in an empty plot, but I decided to start off growing in containers, just until I make the plot all nice and productive. Plus, I'll save a bit of water by growing in containers. I got some white clover seeds as ground cover so that I could break up more of the dirt and fix a bit of nitrogen back into the ground. I'm still observing if some of the growth on the plot is from the clovers or weeds...

(post i did not publish... wooopsss until now)
