I've been collecting a whole bunch of plants from the local nurseries as spring approached, and they've been doing especially well. There were a couple days where the weather was really warm so I thought... YASSSSSSSS I CAN FINALLY START GROWING, and I started some seeds with much gusto :3 But it looks like the weather has turned a 180 again and it has been cold and raining again. No worries though! It definitely has quenched the thirst and provided some cooling for my plants after those couple days of heat.
I can't remember when exactly I started my arugula seeds but it was probably 2 weeks ago. Once they sprouted they were growing a bit leggy and some of them were pinched across the stems. I was afraid they would die, but surprisingly their new leaves looked really healthy. I've read from a book that once a plant grows leggy there isn't much you can do and they wont' be as healthy as the plants that didn't grow leggy. But I wanted to salvage what I could, so I thought of putting in more dirt around the stems to provide some support and to keep moisture around the pinched neck. IT WORKEDDDDDD. I came to check on the arugula, probably a couple days later, and there was no sign of the pinched neck anymore, the stems looked strong and bloated with moisture. I put the seedlings into a new container, and ever since they've been growing very well. :3
Here's a list of what I've been growing so far:
Indoor plants:
-Maidenhair Fern
-Asparagus fern
-Pink polka dot plant
-purple, lavender, and white alyssum

Outdoor plants:
-anemone

-strawberry plant
Currently growing from seeds:

-arugula
Compost... I've been a bit scared to look into it right now since a lot of flies got into it and I saw some maggots inside :x, probably from putting in some vegetable scraps in it. I've stopped putting in the vegetable scraps and so far there's only been coffee grounds...but the maggots probably eat that too -.- ahhhh, i'm just a bit of scared of them, I think they should be harmless... I'll need to move all my redworms into a larger plastic container since the styrofoam box seems to be breaking down at the bottom and I saw a few looks worms resting outside at the bottom of the container. o__________o I think I will wait until summer to do it, to give enough time for the compost to dry off.
